Pupil Premium
If your child is eligible for free school meals, they may also be entitled to Pupil Premium. This a sum of money paid to school to boost their learning. It also entitles you to support such as discounts on school trips.
Schools are given a pupil premium for:
- Children who have qualified for free school meals at any point in the past six years. The school receives £1320 for each of these children.
- Children who have been looked after under local authority care for more than one day. These children are awarded a premium of £1900.
Your child may be eligible for free school meals – and accordingly pupil premium – if you receive any of the following benefits:
- Income support
- Income-based jobseekers’ allowance
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of state pension credit
- Child tax credit, provided that you are not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of £16,190 or less
- Universal credit
If your child qualifies for free school meals, it’s important that you tell us – even if they bring a packed lunch – as this enables us to claim pupil premium. It also means you get extra benefits such as discounts on school trips.

On the front page of our website there is a link to the Devon Portal. Click on the link and it will ask you a couple of questions. It will then give you an immediate answer to let you know if you are entitled to Pupil Premium. If you are please let the school know asap.

Sports Premium
All young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation and is central to meeting the government’s ambitions for a world-class education system.
Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression), and children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. Ensuring that pupils have access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.
Sports Premium is given to each school each year by the Government.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the physical education (PE), physical activity and sport they provide.
It should be used to develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sport that the school provides and build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
