St Joseph's exists to serve the needs of the children in the Catholic Parish of Exmouth. Mass is celebrated regularly in school with both whole-school and class masses. Daily worship/assembly is held, including a weekly liturgy and provides an opportunity for prayer and reflection on religious themes. The children are given regular instruction in each class, following the 'Come and See' framework. Sacramental preparation is parish-based.

The syllabus, schemes of work and core RE programmes are used with the approval of Bishop O'Toole through his appointed advisers. While Religious Education has a particular place in the timetable, it also underpins and is reflected in all areas of the curriculum. The Worship which takes place reflects the life and worship of the Catholic Church and, at the same time, respects the journey in faith of the individual. Each day, staff and pupils gather together for worship. They do so either as a class, a Key Stage or as a whole school.

At all times we teach Religious Education by engaging and child based activities. We give the children the knowledge and tools to make their own informed choices.

Come and See
At St Joseph's, R.E is a Core Subject so the subject is prominent within our timetables. To fulfil the aims of the Religious Education Curriculum Directory, Religious Education (RE) is taught through the 'Come and See' programme of work. It is taught through the process of Explore, Reveal and Respond. We dedicate weeks throughout the academic year to each of the other world religions including Judaism, Islam and Hinduism. One week is dedicated to teaching each of these faiths.
