We are part of the Plymouth CAST family of schools. We are a Catholic school welcoming children of all faiths to learn and grow with us. The education and wellbeing of our children is at the heart of everything we do. Our Gospel Values of humility, compassion, kindness, justice, forgiveness, integrity, peace and courage are integral to our whole school community. We inspire all our children to do their best, be their best and have respect for themselves, others and the world we live in. Choosing a school for your child is really important for any parent or carer. If you would like to find out more about our school you are welcome to visit us to meet our wonderful staff and pupils. Curriculum Overview

At St Joseph's, our curriculum is based around the National Curriculum. Our Topics ensure that all themes are cohesive, relevant and that children make great progress, whilst enjoying their learning! Recent topics include - The Wild West, On the Stage, Land of Giants, Growing our own, Can we make it better?
Forest School
We are really pleased that we have our own Forest School on site. We welcome Mrs Owens to our school every week for Forest School. All classes spend time in our Forest School area, learning about the outdoors and taking part in fun activities all linked with the class topics. Every session is finished with hot chocolate around the camp fire!
When your child is taking part in Forest School please ensure they bring in old clothes and wellie boots as they are will be out in all weather and are sure to get muddy - but all whilst having lots of fun!
Music
At St Joseph's we want children to have the opportunity to try as many things as possible. Who knows where their talents may lie! We are lucky enough to have Clare Felix teaching music from Yr 1-6 . The children have performed and watched concerts such as the Bournemouth Symphony orchestra. The children learn to read music and to play a different instrument each term such as: steel pan drums or glockenspiels. The children love the release and freedom whole class music brings.

We know that for children to achieve highly we need to engage them and make learning memorable.
We ensure our curriculum is enriched with high quality, memorable learning experiences.. Every child who attends St Joseph's will leave having experienced a wealth of opportunities for example: been on a residential, represented their school in an event, taken part in a trip each term, had regular Forest School sessions, learnt to play a selection of musical instruments and learnt that they are a valued member of society with a lot to offer as they continue their journey to secondary school.
See the photos below for just a few of the children's experiences.
RE
For RE we follow the 'Come and See' planning. See the units below. We also use the NBRIA guidance for RE assessment.
Please see our Catholic Life Tab for more information.

Each class has a curriculum map for the year.

Half Termly Topics

Each year group plans half termly in their Key Stage team; Foundation, Key Stage One, Lower Key Stage Two and Upper Key Stage Two.  Every half term the children lead a brand new topic, which gives context and purpose to their learning.  Each new topic will also have a WOW moment to further inspire and engage the children in their learning.  This could be a trip or a visitor coming into school.  Each class has a copy of their current topic webs on their class web page.
